SABI Specialist Series: Registered Nurse Shaneen Goodwin
An ongoing series that highlights the specialists who make up the multidisciplinary team behind the SABI Mind Method.
Shaneen is one of our skilled Nurses here at SABI. A graduate of the University of Calgary, Shaneen holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and numerous certificates related to psychedelic treatment practices.
Her practice is rooted in the holistic nursing philosophy that an individual’s healing needs to be multi-dimensional, acknowledging elements of the mind, body, spirit, and environment.
Shaneen’s approach to her practice reflects the multidisciplinary approach employed at SABI Mind.
"What role does your specialization play in our healing phases at SABI Mind?”
Shaneen - “As a nurse, it is my job to be present for the client on the day of their ketamine Discovery Session. I provide medical monitoring, as well as emotional and spiritual support. I am not guiding the experience but rather supporting and encouraging the client to take the lead in navigating their altered state during the Discovery Session.”
"In your own words, what advantage does the SABI Mind Multidisciplinary approach provide to clients?"
Shaneen - “At SABI, we ensure clients are supported at every phase of the psychedelic-assisted therapy process. Each role brings specific knowledge and skills into their portion of the process, using our career and life experience to support and educate our clients.”
"Why choose SABI Mind as a place to work given your specialization?
Shaneen - “Nurses play an important role in healthcare, in treating those who are sick or unwell. I believe there needs to be a greater focus on health promotion, helping those with chronic pain or mental health conditions before they need emergency health services, fall into addiction, or lose their battle with suicide. Working at SABI means I can be a part of that change in perspective, helping people understand how psychedelic treatments can be an effective preventative health measure.”
