Reflecting on 2024: A Year of Growth, Innovation, and Milestones
As we welcome a new year, we take this opportunity to reflect on an incredible 2024—a year filled with growth, innovation, and remarkable achievements for SABI Mind. From expanding our reach with a new location to launching new holistic services and advancing the field of psychedelic-assisted therapy, this year has been a testament to the dedication of our team and the trust of our community.
Here are some of the highlights that made this year so impactful:
Expanding Our Reach: SABI Mind Victoria Opens Its Doors
March 2024 marked a major milestone for SABI Mind as we proudly launched our second location in the beautiful city of Victoria, BC. This expansion reflects our commitment to making innovative psychedelic mental health services more accessible to individuals across Western Canada.
Since opening, our Victoria clinic has welcomed clients from diverse backgrounds, providing compassionate care tailored to their unique mental health and wellness needs. From the very beginning, the clinic has been guided by our core values: fostering hope, healing, and growth through evidence-based psychedelic therapies and collaborative, client-centered care.
We are profoundly grateful for the incredible team in Victoria—an inspiring group of skilled, compassionate, and caring clinicians and staff who have dedicated themselves to delivering the same exceptional level of care that SABI Mind is known for. Their hard work and dedication have created a safe and welcoming space for clients to engage in quality therapeutic care tailored to their individual needs.
The response from the Victoria community has been overwhelmingly positive, and we are honoured to play a role in supporting clients on their path to better mental health. Looking ahead, we are excited to continue building relationships with local healthcare providers and organizations to ensure a strong network of care for those we serve.
To everyone who has been part of this journey—our clients, staff, and partners—we thank you for your trust and support. Together, we are expanding access to life-changing therapies and paving the way for brighter futures.
Launching SABI Somatics: A New Dimension of Healing
July 2024 marked an exciting new chapter for SABI Mind with the launch of our SABI Somatics service stream, designed to offer holistic, body-centered approaches to mental health and wellness. This initiative reflects our commitment to providing leading-edge, multidimensional care that addresses the mind-body connection at its core.
We kicked off this launch with an illuminating workshop in collaboration with Randelle Lusk of Rare Method Somatic Coaching. This workshop introduced participants to the principles of nervous system regulation and the power of somatics—felt bodily sensations—in releasing trauma and fostering healing. Through a mix of theory, somatic-based exploration, prompted self-reflection, and group discussion, attendees gained tools to access and express stored stress, setting the tone for the following impactful services.
The SABI Somatics offerings include:
Osteopathic Manual Therapy
Led by Danny Martin, OMSc, Osteopath, this gentle, hands-on therapy uses techniques like stretching, massage, and manipulation to improve circulation and correct imbalances in the body’s structure. It’s highly effective for conditions such as back pain, headaches, and digestive issues, promoting alignment, reducing pain, and supporting overall health.Somatic Therapy
Facilitated by Theresa Rybchinski, RSW, this trauma-informed, body-centered approach integrates somatic psychology with neuroscience, trauma, and attachment research. It provides clients with the tools to process unresolved trauma stored in the mind and body, fostering deep healing and helping uncover the impacts of trauma on present life.Somatic Experiencing Coaching®
This service offered by Randelle Lusk of Rare Method helps clients understand and release stored stress and trauma by tuning into bodily sensations. Using breathwork, mindfulness, and movement techniques, Somatic Experiencing Coaching promotes emotional regulation, body awareness, and resilience—ideal for trauma recovery and holistic well-being.
The launch of SABI Somatics has been met with an enthusiastic response from our community, and we are grateful to the incredible practitioners who have brought these services to life. Looking ahead, we are excited to continue expanding the impact of these innovative therapies in 2025 and beyond.
Advancing Research in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy
One of the significant highlights of 2024 was our wrap-up of a groundbreaking clinical trial exploring the use of psilocybin combined with psychotherapy as a potential treatment for alcohol use disorder. This initiative, started in early 2023, reflected our clinic's commitment to advancing mental health care and contributing to the ever-growing body of research on psychedelic therapies and treatments.
We are incredibly proud of the dedication and expertise demonstrated by our clinical and research team, who worked tirelessly to ensure that this complex trial adhered to the highest standards of care and integrity. We are also deeply grateful to the participants who entrusted us with their time and stories, contributing invaluable data and insights to this important area of study.
While the trial was ultimately discontinued due to the financial challenges faced by the sponsor, the journey was nonetheless a meaningful one. It reaffirmed our belief in the potential of psychedelic therapies and deepened our commitment to fostering progress in this emerging field. The experience provided us with invaluable learnings that will inform our future work and research endeavors.
To everyone who contributed to this initiative, we extend our heartfelt thanks. Together, we’ve helped advance the conversation about new possibilities in mental health treatment, and we remain steadfast in our mission to bring hope and healing to those who need it most.
Achieving Provisional NHSF Accreditation and Expanding Treatment Options
To top off an incredible year of achievements, SABI Mind reached a final, major milestone in November 2024 with the granting of provisional Non-Hospital Surgical Facility (NHSF) accreditation by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. This accreditation allows our clinic to offer intravenous (IV) ketamine treatment—a pivotal addition to our services.
This achievement was the culmination of an intensive and complex process involving almost two years of meticulous policy development, the creation of a robust quality management system, and comprehensive clinic preparation to meet the rigorous standards required for NHSF accreditation. Our team’s dedication to excellence and patient safety was instrumental in achieving this important goal.
The introduction of IV ketamine treatment represents a significant expansion of our capabilities, enabling us to treat more complex cases and adopt evidence-based protocols that are optimized for certain chronic pain disorders. By offering IV administration, we can provide a broader range of therapeutic options tailored to the specific needs of our clients, further solidifying SABI Mind’s position as a leader in innovative mental health and pain management care.
We are deeply grateful to our entire team for their tireless efforts in navigating the accreditation process and to our clients for their trust and support. With this new accreditation, we are excited to serve a wider community of individuals seeking relief and recovery through advanced ketamine-assisted therapies.
Looking Ahead
As we reflect on the achievements of 2024, we are filled with gratitude for our team, clients, and partners who made this year possible. Each milestone represents a step forward in our mission to transform lives through innovative, evidence-informed, and compassionate care.
Looking to 2025, we are excited to build on this foundation, explore new opportunities, and continue expanding access to groundbreaking therapies. Together, we can shape a future filled with healing, resilience, and hope.
Thank you for being part of this journey with us.
